An ode to my stretch marks

the shadow of flowers on someone’s chest

Rivers meander down my legs
Like long and tangled stripes
Rivers carve out valleys
Ever-changing, flowing, bright

Deep crimson, violet, rose
Leaving nothing to hide
I can’t empty these rivers
No matter how hard I try

As rivers dry and do not last
Neither do my scars
They slowly fade day by day
Leaving memories in the past

Shimmering iridescent
In the bright summer sun
I’ve learned to love my rivers
For they and I are one
